What is a Hybrid Golf Tournament?
It is an opportunity for the 51st Anniversary Exchange Family Center Golf Tournament to go on (almost) as planned. Golfers will register and play golf over a 10-day period October 16-25, 2020 at Hillandale Golf Course. The players will be on the honor system to keep their team’s score and submit them to EFC’s partners at Magnolia Golf Group (MGG). Contact Tannis Kufner at tannis@magnoliagolfgroup.com or Pam Porter at pam@magnoliagolfgroup.com for more assistance.
How does registration work?
Players can register on-line. To register online, visit EFC’s golf tournament website. There will also be an email sent to everyone who participated in last year's 50th annual EFC tournament.
How do golfers pay for the round?
Player registration generates a voucher that can be redeemed at Hillandale Golf Course, #1600 Hillandale Rd, Durham, NC 27705. Team scores and tournament results will be coordinated and managed by Magnolia Golf Group.
Can players play at any time?
Tee times are flexible. Players can play Hillandale Golf Course any time during the weekdays during the 10-Day Hybrid Tournament and after 1 pm on the weekends. Contact Hillandale Golf Course directly to reserve a tee time and carts. #919.286.4211 Please contact Tannis Kufner at tannis@magnoliagolfgroup.com at MGG with any questions.
How are the scores kept?
Players are on the honor system to keep their own scores for the round. Scores are then submitted to EFC’s partners at MGG by either taking a photo of the team scorecard and sending it to (706) 614-9003 or by emailing a photo of the scorecard to tannis@magnoliagolfgroup.com
How does tournament play work?
Captain's Choice — Each player plays from the tee, the team selects the best drive, each player hits from that spot. This process is continued until the ball is holed out. Each player may lift, clean and place your ball within one club length of the selected shot, no nearer to the hole. Mulligan’s and tosses may not be used from the green or the fringe of the green.
Players should play from the white tees, unless they are ladies, juniors, or seniors, in which case, please use the appropriate red, light blue, or yellow tees.
Are foursomes still permitted?
Yes, foursomes are still permitted, although local COVID rules dictate that only one player is allowed per golf cart unless golfers are family or residing within the same household with proof of identification for verification.
Are mulligans and tosses still available?
Yes, mulligans and tosses will still be available for purchase and donations will go directly to EFC. Again, players and foursomes will be on their own recognizance about the use of mulligans and tosses.
How does Closest to the Pin Work?
Closest to the Pin will be on the 7th hole. Players are required to submit a photo of their golf ball and the pin on the 7th green for verification. Please stand at least ten feet from the pin and the golf ball when taking your photo. Please send your photos to (706) 614-9003 or email your photo to tannis@magnoliagolfgroup.com
Unfortunately, due to the hybrid ten-day long tournament period, EFC will not be able to provide breakfast or lunch in person.
EFC will provide all registered players with a $10 credit to Hillandale Golf Course’s grill and snack bar.
What about breakfast and lunch?
Are Sponsorships still available?
Yes, sponsorships that support EFC are available and the full media packages people are accustomed to can still be honored. The golf committee also has new ways to diversify our media package to increase opportunities for corporate and individual sponsorship. Mask sponsorships are available. Social media promotions will be in full effect.
How does the door & raffle prize games work?
The Golf Tournament’s door & raffle prize games will be moved on-line. All sign-ups for the tournament will still be allocated five door prize tickets to enter to play. Raffle tickets will be sold only online through the golf tournament website. Winners will be notified in the days following the conclusion of the event. Tons of great prizes and raffle items will still be available.
Anyone interested in participating and playing for a chance to win is eligible regardless of whether they played in the tournament.
What about the silent auction?
The Golf Tournament Silent Auction will also be moved on-line. All bidding will take place online and will be open until the last day of the tournament. Winners will be notified during a live, online Facebook event October 28th during lunch.
Anyone interested in participating and playing for a chance to win is eligible regardless of whether they played in the tournament.
Will running the tournament this way require more EFC staff time?
We are hoping the hybrid/virtual nature of this tournament will save staff time. For example, EFC staff should not have to travel to the golf course other than to drop off any printed materials (signs, flyers, etc.). This format will require a golf course partner with some staff time investment in exchange for the business EFC is sending their way.
What about volunteers?
It may be difficult to engage EFC volunteers through a hybrid virtual golf tournament because much of the work will be handled by the golf course staff. However, we will need volunteers to help with logistics online. Contact Calvin at calvinb@exchangefamilycenter.org if you are interested in helping.
What about long term sponsors?
Some long term sponsors will undoubtedly be affected by the change to the hybrid model. Every effort will be made to engage our long-term supporters in some way even if it doesn’t look the same.
