New Graduates from Nurturing Parents Program
On Tuesday, December 7, 2010 the Exchange Clubs’ Family Center graduated its most recent group of parents to complete the Nurturing Parent Program. The most recent group of graduates was comprised of ten dedicated parents. We were pleased to have Darnelle Averre, Exchange Clubs’ Family Center Board President, deliver the key note address to the parents. While receiving their certificates parents spoke of the many ways the program has changed not only the way they parent but also how they live their lives.
The group is currently co-facilitated by Rosenny Fenton and Shawnta Wright, Family Therapists at the Exchange Clubs’ Family Center. The Exchange Clubs’ currently facilitates two Nurturing Parents Groups per fiscal year, one in the fall and one in the spring. The next group is scheduled to begin March 8, 2011. New Graduates from YE Smith Incredible Years Program
POA staff member Shawnta Wright and ECFC contractor, Kindra Clemence, facilitated the YE Smith Incredible Years (IY), English speaking group . The group met for 14 weeks from 5:45 pm – 8:30 pm September through December 2010. Childcare, dinner, and transportation were provided for the IY parents.
The YE Smith IY graduation was originally scheduled for Thursday December 16, 2011 at 7pm in the YE Smith cafeteria. Due to inclement weather and Durham Public Schools being closed that day, the IY graduation was held at the Golden Corral on 15-501 at 5pm on Saturday, December 18. Eight parents graduated the group and they all gave the 14-week long group high marks. Each graduate received a $25 Wal-Mart gift card, a certificate of completion, and a praise certificate with their group member’s compliments and praises for each other. The next YE Smith IY English speaking group will be held in the Fall 2011.
