History
Members of the Exchange Clubs in Durham and surrounding counties
recognized the need for a program focused on preventing child
abuse and neglect. In 1992 they incorporated the non-profit
Exchange Clubs’ Child Abuse Prevention Center to meet
the needs of families facing multiple stresses. The Center is
affiliated with the National
Exchange Club Foundation.
The Center was founded on the belief that parents are the most
influential people in the lives of their children and can learn
positive effective parenting skills if they are provided with
support, knowledge, and access to community resources. To better
reflect this positive family focus the organization has become
known as the Exchange Clubs’ Family Center
Mission
Durham
Exchange Clubs' Family Center, the local affiliate of Prevent
Child Abuse North Carolina, is committed to strengthening
area families and preventing child abuse through family support

- Parenting
of Adolescents (POA), offers in-home counseling and group
sessions that help parents effectively set limits, strengthen
their relationship with their adolescent, and increase communication
skills.

Childhood Outreach (EChO), offers consultation services
and support to Durham families and child care providers when
a pre-school age child's behavior presents a challenge.

Prevent Child Abuse Durham goals are to be the community’s
voice for the prevention of child abuse and neglect and to
